I used to take a really long time to make homemade chicken stock, if ever. It never used to taste as good as what you could buy in a store, and that was a real shame. Many of you have probably tried the ready-made stuff, and it was a lot better than the homemade stock. That being said, many of you have probably asked me why I don’t make homemade stock more often, since I make everything else from scratch.
Chicken soup is one of the most common dishes in the world, and it’s so comforting and nourishing. But, it’s also a great way to get rid of excess fat, especially if you’re following a keto diet. Luckily, making your own homemade chicken stock is really easy and will allow you to save a lot of money. All you need is a chicken carcass and some vegetables, and you’ll have a delicious stock in no time.
For those of you know me, I’m the person who eats Keto. But I also make a lot of homemade chicken stock, so I thought it would be fun to share this recipe with you. Homemade stock is one of the healthiest and easiest ways to cook your chicken, and it’s also a great way to save money if you find yourself eating out a lot. Making homemade stock is quick, and it’s a fun and creative way to use up chicken carcasses or other leftover chicken parts.
Chicken stock prepared from scratch
Fragrant. Comfortable. There are so many. Chicken broth is a great starting point. It adds a lot of flavor to sauces, stews, and soups. Alternatively, you may drink it directly… Simply pour yourself a large cup of boiling water and load it with nutrients.
- In a big pan, ideally enameled cast iron, fry the veggies in olive oil until beautifully browned.
- Place the two pieces of the chicken in the pan after separating the bird in the center. Fill the pan with water and spices. Cover with a cover, reduce to a low heat, and cook for two hours.
- Remove the chicken and discard the bones. Save the meat for later.
- Do you like the crunchiness of crispy chicken skin? Place the chicken skin pieces on a parchment-lined baking sheet, season, and bake for 15 minutes or until crispy at 200°C (400°F).
- Chicken bones should be broken into tiny bits. Return the bones to the pan and continue to cook for another three hours.
- Return the broth to the pot after straining it through a fine strainer. Depending on how rich you want your broth to be, reduce by half or more. The soup should be simmered over medium-low heat rather than boiling violently. Last but not least, season with salt.
- Refrigerate for 2-3 days or freeze in tiny containers for up to three months. It’s great in soups, pots, and sauces as a natural flavor enhancer.
Making use of the slow cooker
It’s ideal for preparing broth if you have a slow cooker. In a large pan, sauté the veggies in olive oil before adding them to the slow cooker. Leave the chicken whole in the slow cooker and mix the ingredients. Cook for three hours on high. Remove the meat, reduce the heat, and continue to simmer the bones for another eight hours (the longer the better). Place them in a pan without a cover and cook over low to medium heat until they achieve the required concentration.
Chicken may also be used to make the traditional chicken soup. Why not combine it with mayonnaise, sour cream, and curry to make a delectable sauce? Yummy!
